TurboTax at the Library

The Catskill Public Library and Palenville Branch Library have partnered with the Bank of Greene County to offer FREE tax filing software at our Franklin street location to ALL Catskill Central School District residents.

Important Note:

Library staff will assist you with using our computers and software. They are not able to provide tax advice.

Basic Federal and NY State Return only. We cannot accommodate business returns or returns with multiple state income.

Where and when is ‘TurboTax at the Library’?

TurboTax at the Library is available by appointment at our Franklin Street location.

This weekly program will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning Tuesday, January 23rd and ending Monday, April 15th, 2024, at 4 PM.

Reservations can be made for these time blocks:

11:15 AM to 2:15 PM

2:45 PM to 5:45 PM

On April 15th, the time blocks will be:

9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Computer reservations fill up on a first-come, first-served basis. The library may not be able to accommodate those who have missed their appointment blocks, and rescheduling for a different time slot may be necessary.

What if I need more time to finish?

No problem! The library staff will assist you in determining if there is an open computer to continue.

If you cannot stay, or there isn’t an open computer to work on, you will be provided a USB copy of your work before we erase our computers. Bring this USB with you for your next session. All of your data will upload back into the computer, and you’ll be able to pick up where you left off.

Any new information will be saved to the USB at the end of your session until your return is completed.

Will my privacy be protected?

YES! Completing your tax return is 100% secure. Our computers have software installed that completely erases your history and data when you sign out and the computers reboot.

Staff will be with you to ensure your computer has been erased.

Do I qualify?

  • You must be a resident within the Catskill Central School District.
  • You must provide proof of residency upon arrival.
  • You do not need to be a library cardholder, but we encourage you to sign up for one!

What will this cost me?

There is no charge for using our computers, printing, software or for filing online.

How does it work?

Due to limited space, patrons must register for an appointment by:

  • Clicking HERE to register online.

OR

  • Calling the circulation desk @ (518) 943-4230.

You’ll arrive at the Catskill Public Library at the day and time block for which you’re registered. Using TurboTax software, you can file Form 1040 for most (simple) returns and NY State tax forms.

See “What do I need to bring?” for a list of paperwork you will want to bring with you.

Our software can complete Federal and NY State returns. We cannot file Business returns or returns if you’ve worked outside of New York State.
