To donate books and other materials to the library please contact us. While we welcome donations, we do not always have room to store them before our next sale so it is always best to call first before loading up your car!

The Catskill Public Library, with its branch in Palenville, is seeking applicants for the position of Librarian III. Our Catskill building is housed in a 1901 Carnegie Building in the village of Catskill, home to the Thomas Cole National Historic Site. Our Palenville Branch is located in Palenville, NY, known for being the first art colony in the USA. We are a School District Public Library, currently with an annual operating budget of $1,000,000.

We are looking for a community focused, tech savvy librarian who is willing to discover and meet the changing needs of the Catskill community. Preferred work experience includes Collection Development, social media marketing, implementing and overseeing adult programs and outreach to the community. The ability to provide excellent customer service including identifying users’ needs, providing readers’ advisory services and working on all service desks is required, as is working on a Saturday rotation and some evening hours.    

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves the overall responsibility for a major functional area of a library, such as Technical Services, Reference, Collection Development or Children’s Services. The Librarian III has responsibility for coordination, administration and policy implementation for the assigned area or branch to insure efficient operation. Work is performed under general supervision of the Library Director.

Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate professional, paraprofessional, clerical and volunteer personnel. Does related work as required.

This is a Provisional 40 hour per week Civil Service Position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: **Master’s Degree in Librarianship from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following acceptable education practices, and four (4) years of professional library experience subsequent to receiving the MLS. Eligibility for a New York State Public Librarian’s professional certificate at time of application for appointment; possession of certificate at time of appointment.

The Catskill Public Library is looking for cheerful, reliable, part-time (16-25 hours/week)
Library Clerks to work at our main location and/or our branch location in Palenville, NY.
Catskill Public Library: 1 Franklin St., Catskill NY 12414.

Working directly with the public you will be:

  • Conducting circulation duties at public service desks
  • Assisting library users with a variety of questions, primarily technology-related
  • (Using computers, hand-held devices, etc.)
  • Performing searches in the library catalog and related databases
  • Registering users and issuing library cards
  • Operating office machinery: fax machines, photocopiers, computers & cash register
  • Fielding phone calls and taking messages
  • Participating in library programming (optional)
  • Some evenings (to 7pm) and alternating Saturdays (10am to 2pm) are required.

The ideal candidate will be a friendly, organized, customer service-oriented forwardthinking individual who is comfortable assisting others in an ever-changing technological
environment. We are especially looking for an individual with an unshakeable positive
attitude and the ability to see the silver lining regardless of the situation!

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School or GED graduate. Computer literate. Proof of
